Description
Elsa Nilsson's music is profoundly playful and widely influenced, drawing from traditional Swedish folkmusic, jazz, rock and brazilian grooves. Her band, the Elsa Nilsson Quartet are an improvisational groove quartet playing Deathjazz like Vikings who got sick of the cold and fled to Brazil.
Since moving to Seattle from Sweden in 2005, Nilsson has played with Jim Knapp's bigband, Jovino Santos Neto, Ben Thomas, Chuck Deardorf, Dawn Clement and many more.
In her playing Nilsson seeks to take the flute out of its comfort zones, using extended technique in improvisation and creating sounds that do not normally come out of this classical instrument.
